Why 5-a-Side rather than 3 v 3 soccer? 5-a-Side is a game that brings in many aspects of the true sport of soccer: technique, tactics, goalkeeping, and sportsmanship. It has the speed and excitement that comes with small sided games like 3 v 3, but greater tactical awareness and decision making. Most importantly, it is fun for all. How does league registration work? Each player registers individually via an on-line system allowing for payment by check or (preferably!) credit / debit card. The registration form includes a field to indicate a coach's name (for youth registrations) or team name (for adult registration) on the Player Registration form so that if players would like to build a team they are able to do so, otherwise players will be placed at random on an ad hoc 5-a-Side team formed just for the league. We're assembling a team, but the roster is incomplete. Now what? If you are a coach or team manager and expect to have a complete team for the league, but don't yet have a final roster defined, you can now reserve a spot for your team! Simply send an e-mail to:
In the e-mail, indicate your name, the team's name, the age group (U11B, U12G, etc), then mail a check for $300 (payable to Broomfield Soccer Club) to 60 Garden Center, Ste 201, Broomfield, CO 80020. Upon receipt of the check, we will reserve a spot for the team in the league. Once your roster is complete, instruct your players to register on-line (click HERE) and include the team's name and / or coach's name in the appropriate field in the on-line registration form. At the payment screen, players should choose "PAYMENT METHOD: Check" (NOT "PAYMENT METHOD: Debit/Credit Card"). That's it! How do we know what age group to put our player or team into? You should look at your players age, or the age of the oldest player on the team, and refer to the birthday range age group grid below. The grid reflects the same youth age group guidelines which soccer clubs follow for regular fall and spring leagues.
NOTE: In the event there are not enough registrations in any one category (e.g. U09 Boys, U10 Girls, etc) players may be asked to play in a combined age group league (e.g. U09+U10 Boys, U11+U12 Girls, etc. How many players do I need for a match? You need to have at the minimum five players on the team as the game consists of four field players and a goalkeeper. How large a roster can we carry? Are guest players allowed? Roster size is limited to ten. Guest players will not be allowed. To optimize playing time, the ideal number of players for match day is eight. The league allows all ten players to participate in every game, but the idea behind a larger roster is to allow team's the flexibility to cover for summer vacations, injuries and so forth. What is the parking like? There are two medium sized parking lots and street parking near the fields. What are the bathrooms like? There will be portable toilets on the site. What are the field dimensions? The pitch is 50 yards long and 30 yards wide. We have tested it with U11 and U15 teams and it worked well for both groups. What do we do in case of bad weather? In the case of bad weather you should call the weather hotline number at 303-466-0096 and check this website. If weather is bad as you are out at the fields, the referee’s and field marshals will use proper judgment to evacuate people off the fields. The weather conditions will be monitored and schedules will be altered as needed for maintaining the games. Will there be concessions on site? There is no concession stand, but snacks and drinks may be available on occasion. There are also groceries stores and various restaurants within minutes of the fields. Are jerseys required? Shin-guards, etc? Same colored shirts are required, but numbers on the jerseys is not. Shin-guards and proper soccer attire (shorts, socks, cleats) are required. Can we request certain times to play? Games are scheduled on the same day each week for each division. We will accept requests for certain timeslots, but cannot guarantee that we will be able to accommodate all requests. Just how awesome is 5-a-Side? Really awesome. |
